NOVEMBER 25TH, 2016 || ALLIED, BAD SANTA 2, MISS SLOANE, & MOANA
ALLIED || Robert Zemeckis (“Back To The Future” and “Forrest Gump”) takes on love during WWII between two spies, one from America and one from France, played by Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard respectively. Their chemistry, along with the stellar costume design, is undeniable, but the overall dynamic of mistrust in the relationship and the faulty ending hold this back from being truly exceptional.
BAD SANTA 2 || The original “Bad Santa” was barely made better by Billy Bob Thornton’s performance and the outrageous nature of the idea set during Christmas, but “Bad Santa 2” simply looks like Thornton is not giving anything at all. It’s fitting that the poster for the film is Thornton sleeping. All the leads are back, including the kid, Brett Kelly, but even the extra cast in Kathy Bates, Christina Hendricks, and Octavia Spencer can’t save this one.
MISS SLOANE || In my eyes, Jessica Chastain can do no wrong, and she looks to continue this streak in “Miss Sloane,” where she plays DC lobbyist that goes against the institute of guns and finds it her biggest challenge yet. Originally this had a lot of Oscar buzz, at least for her performance, but that seems to have burned off a little.
MOANA || The brilliance of Disney and their products is hard to deny. Sure, “Moana” will go to produce huge lines of toys for decades to come and will likely be featured at their theme parks, but the film hits all the right marks while being absolutely gorgeous to watch. Set in the islands of Hawaii, a young girl named Moana sets off to find the objects that will save her people with the help of the arrogant demi-god, voiced by the always impressive Dwayne Johnson.
